Thank you for your interest in participating in the 69th Regiment, NYSM/St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral Commemorative March. This letter fills in the final details for this event. Please feel free to contact me if you have any additional questions. It is important for all to understand that we are the guests of the “Real” 69th, the same regiment we are portraying, and we expect only the highest standards of conduct and an accurate impression of the 69th. That said we expect everyone to have both an enjoyable and informative time and in the words of CPT D.P. Conyngham, author of the 1866 book The Irish Brigade and its Campaigns, some “jollification”. Without further eloquence here are the remaining details:
Walking Tour: Meet at 1500 Hours, 6 June 2009 in front of St. Paul’s Chapel on Broadway between Fulton and Vesey Streets. Wear comfortable clothes as the tour lasts two hours. If you have not paid the fee for the tour, please have either cash for a check made out to the “69th NYSV Historical Association, Inc.” in hand for $20.
Post Tour Reception: Starts at 1830 Hours, 6 June 2009 at “The Garryowen Club” at the 69th Regiment Armory, 69 Lexington Avenue, New York, York. There will be a cash bar, but the 69th NYSV Historical Association, Inc. will be providing a light repast. We ask individuals who are not re-enactors or members of the greater 69th Family to contribute to cost of the reception. You must have a photo ID with you at all times.
Armory Billet: We may have cots available, but plan for as if you were in the field. Bedding is on you, whatever makes you comfortable. Showers are available. Toiletries are a personal responsibility. You must have a photo ID with you at all times.
Parade: Initial Formation will be at 1100 Hours on Sunday, 7 June 2009 in front of the Armory. After units are formed, we will take a brief break before leaving to the Parade Assembly Area. We will depart via NYC subway for downtown. We have been instructed to meet the parade formation at Canal and Worth Streets. The parade begins at 1230 Hours and is expected to last an hour. We will return to the Armory via NYC subway and be dismissed.
Uniform: Two uniforms are authorized as follows: Preferred: (i.e. if you have this wear it) 69th Regiment, New York State Militia: forage cap or kepi, havelock, red issue shirt, light blue trousers, brogans, Ordnance equipment for US M1842 Musket, US M1842 Musket, canteen. NO CAPS OR POWDER. Acceptable if you don’t have the preferred: 69th Regiment, NYS Veteran Volunteers: forage cap, fatigue blouse, light blue trousers, brogans, Ordnance equipment for US M1861 Rifle Musket, US M1861 Rifle Musket, canteen. NO CAPS OR POWDER.
Andy Megill of Company A, 69th Regiment, NYSV will have overall field command. We are planning on two companies, the first will have a 69th Regiment New York State Militia impression, the second will have a generic mid-war infantry impression as a token of respect to the three New York volunteer regiments (69th, 88th 182nd) that 69th Militia members helped form. There are no other impressions allowed and no specialty impressions. All commissioned and non-commissioned officer impressions must be coordinated with us, so that a historically accurate portrayal of the 69th may be maintained.
Authentic civilians are welcome, and will march at the front of the military force. Non-period civilians are also welcome and can march immediately behind the military force.
